*HYMN — Morning Has Broken — #274

Morning has broken like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!
Praise for them, springing fresh from the Word!

Sweet the rain’s new fall sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dewfall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning
Born of the one light Eden saw play!
Praise with elation, praise every morning,
God’s recreation of the new day!

*PRAYER OF INVOCATION — Jo Ann Moody
Gracious God, we give thanks for your presence among us. In the chaos of everyday life, you provide calm, healing, and sanctuary. Open us to new possibilities for being transformed by you as you bless us with your everlasting love and relentless presence. Your Spirit fills us and our surroundings as we gather in your name from pew to park and from sanctuary to sofa. May we be receptive to your Word as we worship you. Stir our imaginations! Enliven our hearts with fullness of joy! Guide us toward ever-growing participation in your Realm of eternal love and grace. Amen.

*HYMN — Break Thou the Bread of Life — #175

Break Thou the Bread of Life, Dear Lord, to me,
As Thou didst break the loaves Beside the sea;
Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord;
My spirit pants for Thee, O Living Word.

Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, To me, to me,
As Thou didst bless the bread By Galilee;
Then shall all bondage cease, All fetters fall,
And I shall find my peace My All in all.

Thou art the Bread of Life, O Lord, to me,
Thy holy Word the truth That saveth me;
Give me to eat and live With Thee above;
Teach me to love Thy truth, For Thou art Love.

Oh, send Thy Spirit, Lord, Now unto me,
That He may touch my eyes, And make me see;
Show me the truth concealed Within Thy Word,
And in Thy Book revealed I see the Lord.

THE SACRAMENT OF COMMUNION
As the United Church of Christ, we celebrate Open Communion. All who desire the bread and the cup are welcome to receive.

RESPONSIVE COMMUNION LITANY
John 6:24-35, “Bread of Life”
A communion litany based onJohn 6:24-35.
One Voice: In the beginning the Holy Three danced in the chaos just before creation. Out of their dance was formed All That-Is, and they looked at it and blessed it, calling it very, very good.

Many voices: One of the parts of that creation was humanity. That’s all of us! Created in God’s image, we sometimes believed that we, alone, were All-That-Is, and our arrogance drove us from the beauty and peace that The Holy Three wished for us.

One Voice: Many voices called throughout time, for humanity to return to our place in All-That-Is. But we did not always listen. When the time was right, one part of The Holy Three, that part called Christ Jesus, came to speak so that we could hear.

Many voices: Jesus said, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. And the people replied, Teacher, give us this bread always.

One voice: And so, on the night before Jesus was killed by those who were threatened by his message of love and care for All-That-Is, he gathered with his closest friends and chosen family and he gave them g=bread saying, “This is my body, the living bread that gives life to the world.” After they ate, he passed them a cup and said “This is the cup of new life, that you might believe in the one whom the Holy Three has sent.” whoever comes to me will never be hungry and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Many voices: And so they ate and drank. And so we eat and drink and remember and rejoice.

One voice: Let us pray. Brother Jesus, we thank you that you have given us the bread that is your body, the cup that is the source of life. We eat and drink today in the strong name of the Holy Three- Creator, the Christ and the Redeemer. Amen.

*HYMN — O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing — #93

O for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace!

Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease,
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears,
‘Tis life and health and peace.

He breaks the power of cancelled sin,
He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean;
His blood availed for me.

Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb,
Your loosened tongues employ;
Ye blind, behold your Saviour come;
And leap, ye lame, for joy.

My gracious Master and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,
To spread thro’ all the earth abroad
The honors of your name.

PRELUDE — Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

*CALL TO WORSHIP — Pat Winship
One: O come now into this time of worship and praise to God!
All: We enter joyfully into “the sacred place of the Most High.”
One: We long to encounter God as Spirit,
All: And to worship God in spirit and in truth.
One: Let every breath become a prayer,
All: And every heartbeat become an open door through whic the Living One may enter.

*HYMN — Sing Praise to God — #45

Sing praise to God who reigns above,
the God of all creation,
the God of power, the God of love,
the God of our salvation;
with healing balm my soul he fills,
and every faithless murmur stills:
to God all praise and glory.

What God’s almighty power hath made,
his gracious mercy keepeth;
by morning glow or evening shade
his watchful eye ne’er sleepeth.
Within the kingdom of his might,
lo! all is just and all is right:
to God all praise and glory

The Lord is never far away,
But through all grief distressing
An ever present help and stay
Our peace, and joy, and blessing;
As with a mother’s tender hand,
He leads His one, HIs chosen band:
To God all praise and glory.

Then all my gladsome way along
I sing aloud thy praises,
that men may hear the grateful song
my voice unwearied raises:
be joyful in the Lord, my heart!
Both soul and body bear your part!
To God all praise and glory.

*PRAYER OF INVOCATION — Pat Winship
Holy Spirit Fire; Wind of God; you are beyond all that we can imagine. There are no words that can fully describe your majesty and power. Dear God, we know you best through your life among us as the Messiah. As Jesus of Nazareth, you showered your love on everyone you met. Still today, Jesus, you call for our re-birth as your children, through the cleansing waters of baptism. We long to be like you, Christ Jesus. May we be faithful and fruitful in the ministries which you give us to do.
Wind of God, blowing among crowds, sweeping across generations to claim us; may we be born anew to your sacred lifestyle of giving. Hear us, Holy God, as we pray together, asking you to shape us into the human beings you intend us to be. Come, help us to live as you have created us to live. Amen.

*RESPONSE — There’s a Quiet Understanding — #144

There’s a quiet understanding
when we’re gathered in the Spirit,
It’s a promise that He gives us,
When we gather in His name.
There’s a love we feel in Jesus,
There’s a manna that He feeds us,
It’s a promise that He gives us
When we gather in His name.

And we know when we’re together,
sharing love and understanding,
That our brothers and our sisters
feel the oneness that He brings.
Thank You, thank You, thank You, Jesus,
for the way You love and feed us,
For the many ways You lead us,
Thank You, thank You, Lord.

All: Look, here’s a place card with your name on it!
One: Come; be a guest of the One who sets all people free.
All: All are welcome at the table of this Amazing Savior!

*HYMN – For All the Saints (Verses 1, 2 and 3) – #548

For all the saints who from their labors rest,
Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might;
Thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight;
Thou, in the darkness dread, their one true light.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Oh, may Thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old
And win with them the victor’s crown of gold.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

*PRAYER OF INVOCATION – Jan Wirtz
God of grace, we struggle to trust you in all aspects of our lives. Mistakenly, we seek validation from impermanent, inadequate sources. We confess that we base our identity on human structures, plans, and schemes. We fail to be satisfied with the gifts and purposes which you are giving us.

Deliver us from our inability to depend on you, Faithful God. Lead us to appreciate the ways in which we are uniquely and wonderfully made. Help us to be in community with one another rather than in competition with one another. Guide us, so that we will perceive situations where we may offer your love and care. Move us to respond faithfully where there is real need; for then we truly will be living out your commandment to love our neighbors. Lead us to love you more than anyone or anything else. Renew a spirit of humility and peace within us, we pray. Amen.

*RESPONSE – Ye Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim (Verse 1) – #74

Speak, O blessèd Master, In this quiet hour;
Let me see Thy face, Lord, Feel Thy touch of power.

For the words Thou speakest, They are life indeed;
Living bread from heaven, Now my spirit freed!

Blissful, glad surrender, I am Thine alone.

O Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Be thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my guide.

O let me feel thee near me!
The world is ever near:
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear.
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.

O Jesus,Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be.
And, Jesus, I have promised
To serve thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION
We celebrate Christ’s Extravagant Welcome through “open” Communion.
All who desire to receive the gifts of God are welcome to receive the bread and the cup at this table.

Leader: Jesus said, “Believe in God, believe also in me.”
People: And the people said, “How can we know The Way?
Leader: And Jesus said, “I am the Way. And the truth. And the light.”
People: And the people said, “Show us, and we will be satisfied.”
Leader: And Jesus said, “If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.
And so since you have asked, today I will show you one of the ways that I will always be here with you.
People: And so Jesus took the bread, and broke it, and gave it to them and said,
“I am the Way and the truth and the life.”

Leader: If you know me, you will know my Abba God also. And I will show you, so you remember. Take this bread. ‘This bread is just like my body, whenever you eat it and remember all that unites you, I am with you.’
People: And after supper, Jesus took the cup and poured it out sharing it with them. And again, he told them. “I am the Way and the truth and the life.”
Leader: Then he said “In my Abba’s house there are many rooms. And I will show you, so you remember. This is the cup of forgiveness, which is as vast as my Abba’s house in heaven. This cup is grace, poured out abundantly on all and for all.”
People: Then Jesus said, “I go and prepare a place for you, so that where I am, there you will be also.”
Leader: This is Christ’s table, and all are welcome here. Come from the Fast and the West, from the North and the South to gather at this feast for forgiveness and unity,

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER – Pastor Dan

*HYMN – Jesus Is All the World to Me – #342

Jesus is all the world to me,
My life, my joy, my all;
He is my strength from day to day,
Without Him I would fall:
When I am sad, to Him I go,
No other one can cheer me so;
When I am sad, He makes me glad,
He’s my friend.

Jesus is all the world to me,
My friend in trials sore;
I go to Him for blessings, and
He gives them o’er and o’er:
He sends the sunshine and the rain,
He sends the harvest’s golden grain;
Sunshine and rain, harvest of grain,
He’s my friend.

Jesus is all the world to me,
And true to Him I’ll be;
Oh, how could I this friend deny,
When He’s so true to me?
Following Him I know I’m right,
He watches o’er me day and night;
Following Him by day and night,
He’s my friend.

Jesus is all the world to me,
I want no better friend;
I trust Him now, I’ll trust Him when
Life’s fleeting days shall end:
Beautiful life with such a friend,
Beautiful life that has no end;
Eternal life, eternal joy,
He’s my friend.

See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from ev’ry sin and set me free.

I praise thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy Word, and make me pure within.
Fill me with fire where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire to magnify Thy name.

Lord, take my life and make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart with Thy great love divine.
Take all my will, my passion, self, and pride;
I now surrender; Lord, in me abide.

O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival, Start the work in me.

For blessings now, O Lor, I humbly plead.

*HYMN – Amazing Grace – #299

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind but now I see

‘Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear,
And Grace, my fears relieved;
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
We have already come;
‘Tis Grace that brought us safe thus far,
And Grace will lead us home.

When we’ve been there then thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.

HYMN – How Great Thou Art – #16

  1. O Lord my God, when I in awe-some won-der
    Con-sid-er all the worlds Thy hands have made,
    I see the stars, I hear the roll-ing thun-der,
    Thy pow’r thro’-out the u-ni-verse dis-played.

Refrain:
Then sings my soul, my Sav-ior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Sav-ior God, to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

  1. When thro’ the woods and for-est glades I wan-der
    And hear the birds sing sweet-ly in the trees,
    When I look down from loft-y moun-tain gran-deur,
    And hear the brook and feel the gen-tle breeze.

Refrain

  1. And when I think that God, His Son not spar-ing,
    Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in,
    That on the cross, my bur-den glad-ly bear-ing,
    He bled and died to take a-way my sin.

Refrain

  1. When Christ shall come with shout of ac-cla-ma-tion
    And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
    Then I shall bow in hum-ble ad-o-ra-tion,
    And there pro-claim, my God, how great Thou art.

    Find-ing our for-give-ness here,
    We in turn for-give all wrongs.
  3. He joins us here, He breaks the bread;
    The Lord who pours the cup is ris-en from the dead.
    The One we love the most is now our gra-cious host.
    Come take the bread, come drink the wine, come share the Lord.
  4. We are now a fam-i-ly
    Of which the Lord is head.
    Though un-seen, He meets us here,
    In the break-ing of the bread.
  5. We’ll gath-er soon where an-gels sing,
    We’ll see the glo-ry of our Lord and com-ing King.
    Now we an-tic-i-pate the feast for which we wait.
    Come take the bread, come drink the wine, come share the Lord.

*HYMN – I Have Decided to Follow Jesus #427

  1. I have de-cid-ed to fol-low Je-sus,
    I have de-cid-ed to fol-low Je-sus,
    I have de-cid-ed to fol-low Je-sus,
    No turn-ing back, no turn-ing back.
  2. The world be-hind me, the cross be-fore me;
    The world be-hind me, the cross be-fore me,
    The world be-hind me, the cross be-fore me,
    No turn-ing back, no turn-ing back.
  3. Tho’ none go with me, I still will fol-low,
    Tho’ none go with me, I still will fol-low,
    Tho’ none go with me, I still will fol-low,
    No turn-ing back, no turn-ing back.
  4. Will you de-cide now to fol-low Je-sus?
    Will you de-cide now to fol-low Je-sus?
    Will you de-cide now to fol-low Je-sus?
    No turn-ing back, no turn-ing back.

July 5 Virtual Worship

This week, we invite you to join us for a virtual communion experience. Gather your own elements, and we can share them together.

As our Independence Day celebrations wind down, we pause to pray for peace and unity in our county and our world. Thank you for continuing to join us for our virtual worship experiences. And while we anxiously await the time when we may be able to worship together again, we will always put the health and safety of our members, friends and community first. Be safe, be healthy, and stay connected as best you can.

America

  1. My country, ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, Of thee I sing;
    Land where my fathers died, Land of the Pilgrim’s pride,
    From every mountain side Let freedom ring!
  2. Let music sweet the breeze, and ring from all the trees Sweet freedom’s song:
    Let mortal tongues awake, Let all that breathe partake;
    Let rocks their silence break, The sound prolong.

America the Beautiful

  1. O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain,
    For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain!
    America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
    And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!
  2. O beautiful for pilgrim feet, Whose stern impassioned stress
    A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness!
    America! America! God mend thine every flaw,
    Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law!

Battle Hymn of the Republic

  1. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
    He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
    He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; lory! glory, hallelujah!
    His truth is marching on.

REFRAIN
Glory! glory, hallelujah! Glory! glory, hallelujah!
Glory! glory, hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

  1. In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea,
    With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
    As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free,
    While God is marching on.

REFRAIN

Spirit

REFRAIN
Spirit, Spirit of gentleness, blow through the wilderness, calling and free,
Spirit, Spirit of restlessness, stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.

  1. You move on the waters, you called to the deep,
    then you coaxed up the mountains from the valleys of sleep,
    and over the eons you called to each thing,
    “Awake from your slumbers and rise on your wings.”

REFRAIN

  1. You swept through the desert, you stung with the sand,
    and you gifted your people with a law and a land,
    When they were confounded with idols and lies,
    Then you spoke through your prophets to open their eyes.

REFRAIN

  1. You sand in a stable, you cried from a hill,
    then you whispered in silence when the whole world was still,
    and down in the city you called once again
    when you blew through your people on the rush of the wind.

REFRAIN

  1. You call from tomorrow, you break ancient schemes,
    from the bondage of sorrow the captives dream dreams;
    our women see visions, our men clear their eyes.
    With bold new decisions your people arise.
