PRELUDE– Anna DiVesta

*CALL TO WORSHIP – Pastor Dan
One: Jesus, we hear you say, Peace be with you.
All: People rage with contempt; the land is consumed by violence; the air of the atmosphere is polluted. How can we claim peace in a time like this?
One: Peace be with you.

One: Jesus, we hear you say, Receive the Holy Spirit
All: We are afraid of this Spirit, too disturbed by it, too overwhelmed by it. Isn’t your Spirit a gift too powerful to be entrusted to humankind?
One: Receive the Holy Spirit.

One: Jesus, we hear you say, See my hands.
All: We do not want to see the wounds of the world. There are too many to recall, too many places scarred by injury. Why won’t you let us look away?
One: See my hands.

One: Jesus, we hear you say, Reach out your hand.
All: We are so bound up in your love, Jesus, that your peace, your Spirit, even your pain will not let us go. Therefore, we remember, we marvel, and we move forward in faith.
One: Reach out your hand.

One: Jesus, we hear you say, Do not doubt but believe.
All: Our Lord and our God, you are alive!

HYMN – Crown Him with Many Crowns – #3

  1. Crown Him with many crowns The Lamb upon His Thrown;
    Hark! how the heav’nly anthem drowns All music but its own!
    Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee,
    And hail Him as thy matchless King Thro’ all eternity.
  2. Crown Him the Son of God Before the world’s began,
    And ye, who tread where He hath trod, Crown Him the Son of Man;
    Who every grief hath known That wrings the human breast,
    And take and bears them for His own, that all in Him may rest.
  3. Crown Him the Lord of life, Who triumphed o’er the grave,
    And rose victorious in the strife For those He came to save;
    His glories now we sing, Who died and rose on high,
    Who died eternal life to bring, And lives that death my die.
  4. Crown Him the Lord of love! Behold His hands and side,
    Those wounds, yet visible above, In beauty glorifies:
    All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me:
    Thy praise and glory shall not fail Thro’out eternity.

PRAYER OF INVOCATION – Pastor Dan
God of Easter Joy; you can do anything! You are so flat-out Supreme that you frighten us, Amazing God. As we continue sharing time with you, we eventually grow somewhat more at ease in your presence, God.

Through your patient love, we learn that anyone and everyone can safely come to you – with our joys; our sorrows; our fears; our complaints; our doubts.
God of Easter Joy; we are grateful to you for teaching us your Way of life! Draw us away from the ways of this world. We praise you for the wholeness which you provide, God. Bring together the broken pieces of fragmented human lives. Help all people to accept who you are and to receive the love that you offer. Come now, and guide this time of worship, we pray. Amen.

PRAISE RESPONSE – Open Our Eyes, Lord – #132

HYMN – Hymn of Promise – #277

  1. In the bulb there is a flower; In the seed, an apple tree;
    In cocoons, a hidden promise; Butterflies will soon be free!
    In the cold and snow of winter There’s a spring that waits to be,
    Unrevealed until its season, Something God alone can see.
  2. There’s a song in every silence, Seeking word and melody;
    There’s a dawn in every darkness, Bringing hope to you and me.
    From the past will come the future; What it holds, a mystery,
    Unrevealed until its season, Something God alone can see.
  3. In our end is our beginning; In our time, infinity.
    In our doubt there is believing; In our life, eternity.
    In our death a resurrection; At the last, a victory.
    Unrevealed until its season, Something God alone can see.

    Here I am to say that You’re my God,
    And You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to me.
  2. King of all days, O so highly exalted, glorious in heaven above,

    Here I am to say that You’re my God.
    And You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to me. And I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross.
    And I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross. So, Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down,
    Here I am to say that You’re my God.
    And You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to me. So, Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down,
    Here I am to say that You’re my God.
    And You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to me. UNISON PRAYER OF INVOCATION Pastor Dan

The world continues to change around us – but we want you to know you are always welcome at Ivy Chapel United Church of Christ. This is the core of who we are – and even as it seems like things are pushing us apart, we want it to be easy to bring everyone together.

We gather for worship every Sunday at 10 a.m. If you know Ivy Chapel, that sometimes means 10:02 a.m. maybe 10:05. Check our Facebook page for updates – we’ll post there if there is a delay.

Here’s how to join us:

In person
You can join us in the sanctuary for worship each Sunday as long as the COVID-19 numbers do not spike again in St. Louis county. Masks are required while you are in the building and you will be seated in a socially distanced manner. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED EACH SUNDAY YOU WISH TO ATTEND. Your reservation from last week will not carry over to next week. Please contact GAIL THOELE, 314-576-0091, to make a reservation for Sunday worship by SATURDAY AT NOON (the day before).

Online
We have recently started using a new AV system which changed how we stream worship. Worship will stream live on the Ivy Chapel United Church of Christ YouTube channel. You will find links at the top of this site and on our Facebook page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We’re ready to help you find a way to worship with us that works for you.

We’re making a big move on March 6, bringing our livestreams to YouTube for better quality and accessibility. We’re debuting a new camera and new audio system, too.

Please help us out by subscribing to our YouTube channel:

In return, you’ll receive notifications anytime we go live.

No matter how you join us tomorrow, in person or on the livestream, things will be a little different.

This will be the first time in almost a year we’ve had people in the sanctuary for worship! It is an exciting time. The experience will still be very different from “normal,” but we hope it is an enriching experience for all who are here.For those of you joining us on the livestream, you will notice improved video and sound.

We’re making the transition to the new system tomorrow.While it will be better, we can’t guarantee there won’t be hiccups. Please be patient with us as there’s quite a learning curve to get this all running smoothly, and you never know how it’s going to go until you’re “Live.

Please comment on this post or reach out to Rich Heend if you have any questions.

    That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation Offered me within Thy holy Word.

One: Let us pray.
All: Amazing God, you are the Creator of all that is! We give you thanks for your sacred gift of life. During this time of worship, help us to accept more fully your gifts of peace and rest which you long for each soul to receive. By your mercy, lead us to continue growing in our relationship with you, God. You are our Source of Strength.
Come, Holy Spirit; wash over us. Come as Light in our darkness. Come as Strength to our weakness. We pray in your blessed name, Christ Jesus.
Fill us with your Spirit now as we worship you. Amen.

Hymn – “Through It All” – #304

I’ve had many tears and sorrows, I’ve had questions for tomorrow,
There’ve been times I didn’t know right from wrong;
But in every situations God gave blessed consolation
That my trials come to only make me strong.

REFRAIN
Through it all, Through it all, I’ve learned to trust in Jesus, I’ve learned to trust in God;
Through it all, Through it all, I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.

  1. I’ve been to lots of places, And I’ve seen a lot of faces,
    There’ve been times I felt so all alone;
    But in my lonely hours, Yes, those precious lonely hours,
    Jesus let me know that I was His own.

REFRAIN

  1. I thank God for the mountains, And I thank Him for the valleys,
    I thank Him for the storms He brought me through;
    For if I’d never had a problem, I wouldn’t know that He could solve them,
    I’d never know what faith in God could do.
